As part of the government’s commitment to ensuring food security for the underprivileged, the Anna Canteen on Indira Bhavan Road in Nellore was inspected to review the quality of food and overall management. The visit focused on maintaining high standards of hygiene, service, and beneficiary satisfaction.
It was noted that the closure of Anna Canteens by the previous government had adversely affected nearly 2.25 lakh poor people and daily wage workers, depriving them of access to low-cost meals. In contrast, similar welfare initiatives such as the Amma Canteens in Tamil Nadu have continued to serve the public despite changes in government.
With the objective of supporting the underprivileged and the working class, the Government of Andhra Pradesh has reopened 270 Anna Canteens across the state. These canteens are providing quality meals at an affordable price of just ₹5, ensuring that no one is denied access to a nutritious meal because of financial constraints.
The revival of Anna Canteens has been widely welcomed by the public, particularly by poor families and daily wage earners who depend on these facilities. The government remains committed to strengthening the state’s economy and expanding this welfare initiative further by increasing the number of Anna Canteens in the future.
