The Andhra Pradesh government has officially restarted construction in Amaravati with a ₹160 crore tender, aiming to complete the capital development within three years. 

The project was led by then-Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu with Dr. Ponguru Narayana serving as the Minister for Urban Development, who played a pivotal role in the planning, development, and implementation of the capital’s infrastructure.

Initially, the ambitious project aimed at creating a modern capital city with world-class facilities, but the construction work was halted in 2019 due to financial constraints and a change in government, which shifted the focus away from Amaravati. This halt led to uncertainties for the thousands of landowners who had contributed their land to the capital’s establishment.

On October 19, 2024, the construction of Amaravati was officially restarted marking a significant revival of the project. Dr. Ponguru Narayana emphasized the importance of resuming work and advocating for the efficient execution of the project to benefit the local communities who had made sacrifices for the capital’s vision. Narayana’s involvement is crucial as he continues to address the needs and concerns of the residents and landowners while promoting the development of Amaravati as one of the top 5 capitals.

Minister Ponguru Narayana recently met with HUDCO officials, Special Chief Secretary Anil Kumar Singhal, and HUCDO CMD Sanjay Kulshreshtha in Delhi. During this meeting, he outlined the government’s comprehensive policy for the construction of Amaravati and successfully secured a commitment for a ₹11,000 crore loan to the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (AP CRDA)

Budameru :  Minister Ponguru Narayana’s Swift Responses & Relief Efforts Amid Vijayawada Floods

The Budameru River flooded Vijayawada is one of the worst natural calamities to hit the city in the last three decades causing significant damage across the city due to breaches along its encroached path. Minister Ponguru Narayana led relief efforts, visiting affected areas like Singh Nagar and coordinating immediate support for victims. His team organized essential supplies, directed sanitation crews, and provided emergency aid. Following the floodwaters’ receding, he oversaw cleanup operations and personally inspected conditions to ensure a quick recovery.

On August 31, Minister Ponguru Narayana visited Moghalrajpuram landslide victims and offered immediate relief of ₹5 lakhs. Coordinating under Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s guidance, he led prompt flood-relief efforts, Minister Narayana traveled to flooded zones, ensured the safe relocation of residents, and organized essential supply distribution at Indira Gandhi Stadium. His efforts extended to overseeing water drainage operations, directing sanitation teams, and mobilizing additional resources from Nellore to support the recovery initiatives for flood victims.

Once floodwaters began reducing, Minister Narayana led sanitation efforts innovatively using fire engines to clear the thick sludge from affected homes. He worked day and night coordinating across departments and personally visited victims to ensure they received food and water. In a subsequent meeting led by CM, he played a key role in assessing flood damages and presenting relief plans. Additionally, as rumors spread of Budameru’s embankment breaching, Minister Narayana acted promptly to address public concerns, visiting areas to dispel fears. His leadership mobilized 10,000 sanitation workers along with municipal commissioners from various districts to complete the flood restoration efforts successfully.

Anna Canteen : Anna Canteen Initiative Relaunched Across Andhra Pradesh

In a significant move to enhance food security for low-income individuals, Minister Ponguru Narayana along with Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, has relaunched the Anna Canteen initiative. By mid-August 2024, a total of 203 canteens are set to open across the state reaching rural and tribal areas to provide affordable meals at just ₹5.

Minister Narayana’s commitment to this initiative goes beyond the launch; he is actively involved in inspecting canteen facilities to ensure high standards of cleanliness and quality. His efforts in facilitating resources and collaborating closely with local teams have expanded access to nutritious meals, reinforcing Andhra Pradesh’s welfare programs.

The Anna Canteens are positioned as a sustainable public service model establishing themselves as a trusted source of affordable meals while promoting community support throughout the state. Narayana’s dedication is a vital component of this initiative, enhancing the state’s commitment to welfare and inclusivity.

Waste Management : 

Driving Cleanliness: Minister Narayana Leading Swachhata Initiatives and Innovative Waste Solutions

On October 2, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu conducted inspections in various areas of Machilipatnam as part of the Swachhata Hi Seva program. Minister Ponguru Narayana has already reviewed the locations to be visited by the Chief Minister, ensuring that all necessary arrangements are in place for the program’s success.

In a related event on Gandhi Jayanti, Minister Narayana joined CM Naidu in emphasizing the government’s dedication to cleanliness and effective waste management. During the event, he announced the cancellation of the waste tax imposed by the previous YSRCP government, highlighting the current administration’s commitment to fulfilling election promises. Minister Narayana indicated that formal approval for these measures will be sought in the upcoming cabinet meeting.

Additionally, Minister Narayana inspected the waste-to-energy plant  located near the Kapuluppada dumping yard in Visakhapatnam, advising representatives from the Jindal Group to incorporate advanced technologies for more efficient electricity generation from waste.  The Visakhapatnam plant has a capacity of 1,500 tonnes and was highlighted as the first of its kind in Andhra Pradesh, with plans for additional plants in other locations​ .This visit marked Narayana’s first inspection of the Visakhapatnam facilities since assuming ministerial duties.
