Andhra Pradesh Accelerates Mission to Build a Garbage-Free State

As part of the Government of Andhra Pradesh’s commitment to sustainable waste management and environmental protection, the Minister conducted a field inspection of the Donthali Dumping Yard and reviewed the progress of the ongoing waste processing works.

Addressing officials during the review, the Minister stated that significant progress has been achieved in the scientific remediation of legacy waste across the state. Over the past two years, nearly 13 million tonnes of legacy waste have been cleared, and the remaining 2.3 million tonnes are targeted for complete processing by the end of July.

The Minister also reviewed the implementation of the state’s integrated waste management initiatives. Construction of 107 waste processing plants is progressing at a rapid pace across Andhra Pradesh. The Waste-to-Energy plants at Guntur and Visakhapatnam are already generating electricity, while approvals have been accorded for the establishment of six additional Waste-to-Energy plants, further strengthening the state’s waste management infrastructure.

During the inspection, officials informed the Minister that nearly 100,000 tonnes of waste at the Donthali Dumping Yard will be cleared by the end of the month. The Waste-to-Energy plant being established by Jindal is expected to become operational within the next two years, contributing to scientific waste disposal and renewable energy generation.

The Minister reiterated that, under the vision and leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri N. Chandrababu Naidu, the Government is investing approximately ₹300 crore in establishing modern waste treatment facilities across the state. These initiatives reflect the Government’s commitment to scientific waste management, environmental sustainability and improved public health.

The Government remains steadfast in its mission to transform Andhra Pradesh into a Garbage-Free State through sustainable infrastructure, innovative technologies and efficient municipal waste management systems.
