The Andhra Pradesh government has revived the construction of Amaravati, forming a ₹160 crore tender to complete the capital’s development in the next three years. This plan was originally launched under the vision of then-Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. Dr. Ponguru Narayana served as the Minister for Urban Development and played a pivotal role in planning, developing, and implementing the capital’s infrastructure. This ambitious project aims to show Amaravati as a modern capital with world-class amenities.
This project was originally proposed and started to create a capital with all the modern amenities and high-tech infrastructure. However, the construction work was halted in 2019 due to financial constraints and changes in government. This halt in construction left many landowners in doubt, uncertain about the future of their contributions to the capital. However, the recent announcement on October 19, 2024, marks a significant turning point, signaling a renewed commitment to transforming Amaravati into a thriving urban center.
Dr. Ponguru Narayana, Minister for Urban Development, has been pivotal in supporting the efficient execution of the project, emphasizing its importance to local communities who have made sacrifices for this vision. He is actively engaged in the Amaravati project. He has committed to ensuring that the annuity payments for the 1,400 farmers who contributed land for the capital will be processed within ten days after verification. Furthermore, he assured that plots will be allocated to these farmers either within their original villages or in nearby areas. His leadership aims to ensure that Amaravati emerges as one of India’s top capitals.
Recently, Minister Narayana engaged with HUDCO officials and secured a ₹11,000 crore loan for the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (AP CRDA). This financial support is crucial for the project’s ambitious goals and will help enhance infrastructure that meets residents’ needs.
The government’s comprehensive approach towards urban development in Amaravati showcases its commitment to sustainability and modern living, aligning with the needs of the growing population. With the revival of this critical project, Andhra Pradesh is balanced to step into a new era of growth and development, turning Amaravati into a beacon of progress.
As construction resumes, the hopes and aspirations of thousands are reignited, looking for the way for a brighter future in Andhra Pradesh’s capital.
