Minister Ponguru Narayana is spearheading efforts to transform government education in Nellore by upgrading existing institutions and developing modern educational infrastructure. As part of this initiative, 15 government schools across Nellore city are being modernised with an overall investment of ₹217 crore, with a focus on providing students with quality learning environments, contemporary facilities and opportunities for holistic development.
Minister Nara Lokesh inaugurated the modernised DSR Government School in Moolapeta and RSR Government School in Stonehousepeta. The DSR school has been upgraded at a cost of ₹13.41 crore with support from the Devireddy Sarada Charitable Trust and DSR Constructions Chairman Sri Devireddy Sudhakar Reddy. The school features smart classrooms, six types of laboratories, a library, dedicated art, music and language rooms, sports grounds, an outdoor gym, a sensory park and a children’s play area. The VSR Government School is also part of Nellore’s broader focus on strengthening public education infrastructure. During the inaugurations, Minister Nara Lokesh interacted with students, answered their questions and encouraged them to pursue their academic aspirations.
The initiative complements other educational development efforts in Nellore, including the establishment of Abdul Kalam International School at Parameswar Nagar on land allotted by the Andhra Pradesh Waqf Board. Conceived in honour of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the school is envisioned to provide free, international-standard education from LKG to Class XII, with modern classrooms, advanced laboratories and contemporary learning facilities. The project is estimated to cost ₹20 crore, with CSR funding mobilised through MP C.M. Ramesh, and places particular emphasis on expanding educational opportunities for underprivileged and minority students.
Another significant initiative is the revitalisation of the historic V.R. Municipal High School, Nellore, established in 1875. With ₹15 crore in CSR support, the institution is being upgraded with modern classrooms, digital learning facilities, laboratories and improved amenities while preserving its heritage. The school has reported more than 1,000 students enrolled in the current academic year, alongside support for economically weaker students through free education, nutrition, transport, uniforms and learning materials.
Together, these initiatives reflect a sustained focus on strengthening Nellore’s educational ecosystem through improved public school infrastructure, CSR partnerships and inclusive learning opportunities. By combining the modernisation of existing government schools with the development of new educational institutions, the efforts aim to expand access to quality education and create an environment in which students can learn, innovate and achieve their full potential.
